What is Open Source?

"Open Source" literally means that the applications Source Code is freely distributed and made readily available for anyone for any purpose.

Why Open Source?

One of the largest factors influencing the decision to choose Open Source for your project is the cost. There is no cost for the code.

Think of it like Commercial versus Public. A commercial product is created and maintained by a business entity for profit.

Licensing?

Although Open Source is Free of cost, it does come with a license that must be respected. The purpose of the license is to give attribution to the authors and deter abuse and "Tom Foolery".

A Public (open source) product is free, but does come with a license. Open Source utilizes several different licensing models. Commonly, there is the General Public License (GPL) and the Creative Commons licenses.

Is Open Source Safe?

Each and every software application starts with a "Project". Each Project has maintainers, contributors and developers who create, edit and maintain the source code. To ensure software is "Safe" it IS reviewed by an entire community of people. It is tested and actively updated to ensure there are not vulnerabilities or flaws that could pose a risk.

Does B Moore Productions offer non-free or commercial options?

Yes, many times we have assisted clients with commercial products to fulfill a specific need. Commercial options usually do not share their code and your contract with them is for support of the product. B Moore can still maintain the commercial product and be the host between the client and the publisher.

Can I just do it all myself?

Yes. Many times, after a successful consultation our clients are armed with the information to successfully setup and maintain their own website. We can also consult about your digital marketing strategies.

What open source projects does B Moore Suggest?

The top three projects are Drupal, Joomla! and Wordpress.

Digital Marketing is essentially Online Sales or online advertising. It is a crucial part to successfully reaching your target audience from your website.

Search Engine Submissions?

We submit your website's sitemap to ALL major search engines and have a great relationship with Google and most often we setup an AdWords account on behalf of our clients and run their Ad Campaigns.

Why Google?

We strongly recommend creating and maintaining a relationship with google. Use google for your business listing (address), reviews, email and even for your website and web hosting.

Can we run our own Mail Server with our domain with B Moore?

Yes, we would have to set you up a dedicated Mail Relay server (MX) (about $20.00 per month). This would enable you to have full control of your addresses and messages.  Versus paying ($10.00-15.00 per month per email address) for a hosted mail account from google or outlook.com.

Do you create custom websites for clients? as in custom code not obtained from a third party?

Yes, we can make you a custom website to meet your needs. But, this will require many hours of work. This is why most choose open source, and skip paying for hours of coding.
